Founded in 2011 as the first parent organization established to support African American students studying Chinese. PAASSC remains the only organization that supports African American youth pursuing fluency in Chinese as early as preschool and elementary school. PAASSC supports students in three ways:
- Offering monthly field trips and activities led by Mandarin Language Instructors.
- Providing resources for parents.
- Organizing trainings and workshops for teachers and administrators.
We are excited to be a part of a growing community with bright and creative youth and their families.
Our Mission
Our youth are global citizens that engage in diverse multi-cultural experiences.
Our organization ensures that African American youth have opportunities to speak Chinese outside of the classroom while creating a community that enhances the confidence, courage and fluency of bilingual Black youth. PAASSC reaches out to students, parents and schools to create a community of African American students learning Chinese.
It is the goal of our organization to provide families in the Bay Area with a supportive forum and network that is able to speak to the needs of African American students learning Chinese, support them in their academic pursuits and provide events that are socially, culturally and academically enriching.
